Achieve
The Achieve Dual Enrollment Program provides low-income, high-achieving high school students in the New Orleans area, especially those who will be the first in their family to go to college, with the opportunity to enroll in credit-bearing courses on campus at Xavier University. Courses are offered in the Fall, Spring, and Summer II terms, and students are supported via advising and mentoring by Xavier faculty, staff, and students.
Achieve is different from traditional concurrent enrollment in a few important ways. First, Achieve offers special sections of courses that are closed to traditional undergraduate students. This allows all our concurrent enrollment students to take the same course at the same time, making it easier for our students to connect with one another and form study groups. It also allows our instructors, tutors, and academic advisors to tailor the academic support they provide to our population of students.
Second, Achieve is free for students whose families can demonstrate financial need. The Achieve program’s mission is to make graduating college more attainable for low-income students by decreasing the amount of time and money it will take them to complete their degree. A student who completes six terms of the Achieve program can earn up to 24 hours of college credit, which is about 80% of the credits that make up a freshman year and 20% of the credits required for a typical bachelor's degree. Achieve Dual Enrollment students can go on to complete their college degree 1-2 semesters faster than their peers, potentially saving them tens of thousands of dollars in tuition, fees, and room and board.
